PowerPoint 2007: How Can I Print Slide Numbers on a Handout?

Microsoft PowerPoint software, part of Microsoft Office Suite, is designed to help create slideshow presentations, but not all presentations are broadcast live. If you are distributing your presentation instead of conducting it or want to give your audience a way to follow along as you present, PowerPoint 2007's handout print option is helpful. Participants can track the slides as they go when you include slide numbers on the handouts.

Instructions

    • 1

Open PowerPoint 2007. Click the "Office" button in the top-left corner of the screen. Click "Open" and browse to the presentation with the slide numbers to print. Double-click the file name and the presentation opens in the workspace.

    • 2

Click the first slide in the slide deck on the left side of the screen. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Slide Number" button in the middle of the ribbon/toolbar below the tab. The "Header and Footer" box opens.

    • 3

Check the "Slide Number" box on the "Slide" tab. Click the "Apply to All" button to ensure slide numbers appear on every slide.

    • 4

Click the "Office" button and select "Print." Pull down the "Slides" option and select one of the "Handouts" options, from one to nine slides per page. Notice the preview shows the slide number in the corner of each of the slides on the handout.
