How to Transfer Skype Chat Archives to a New Computer

When you log into your Skype account on a new computer, it automatically transfers all of your contacts and settings. Skype does not, however, automatically transfer your chat archives to the new computer. If you wish to view your chat history on this new computer, you will need to manually select which history to import. To do this, you need access to the computer with the chat history as well as the computer to which you want to transfer your chat archives.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Skype on the computer that you were using when you had the chats that you want to transfer. Log in to your Skype account if you have not already done so.

    • 2

Find the contact whose chats you want to transfer onto the new computer. If you want to transfer chat history from more than one contact, you will have to select to transfer the history for each contact separately.

    • 3

Right-click on the contact whose chat archives you want to transfer onto the new computer. This will bring up a list of options including "Call," "Video call" and "Send IM."

    • 4

Click on "Mark as Unread" in this list of options. This will mark all of your chats with this contact as unread. Repeat this for each contact whose chat archives you want to transfer to your new computer.

    • 5

Log out of Skype, then open Skype on the new computer and log in. Your chat archives with the contact or contacts you selected and marked as unread will appear automatically.
