How to Size Boys' Clothes: Inseam Sizes for Pants
There are many measurements that are used to determine the proper size for boys' clothes. Pants can use several different measurements, but two are the standard for pant size: the waist and the inseam. They are usually referred to on the tag or sticker with two numbers in the form "(waist number) x (inseam number)." The inseam will determine how long the pant legs are.
Instructions

-
1
Instruct the person you are measuring to stand normally and comfortably. Any rigidity or awkward body positioning could translate to an inaccurate measure.
-
2
Give the end of the tape measure to the person getting measured and have him hold it at the underside of his crotch. If you need to measure a baby who can't stand, measure the inseam of a pair pants he currently owns that fit well.
-
-
3
Measure from the underside of the crotch to the bottom of the ankle.
-
4
Take the tape measure with you to the store. Measure from the crotch to the end of the hem when you have found a pair you like, to ensure that the inseam size listed is accurate. Sizes may vary depending on brand and manufacturer. Measure each leg separately, as measurements can actually vary by leg.

Tips & Warnings
New pants can shrink in the wash, so err on the side of slightly too big instead of slightly too small, especially for boys.
