How to Solve a Hanayama Die Cast Puzzle

How to Solve a Hanayama Die Cast Puzzle thumbnail
Puzzles activate logic and resoning centers within the brain.

Die-cast puzzles were first produced in the 19th century. They were invented by British nobles as a form of entertainment. Cast puzzles remain popular because they are challenging and also collectible. The Hanayama company produces puzzles for various skill levels. If you find yourself struggling to solve a Hanayama die-cast puzzle, a few clues exist to help you finish up with ease.

Instructions

  1. Heart Puzzle

    • 1

Hold the heart so that the side with the smaller silver heart is facing toward you.

    • 2

Pull the chain on the left until it is 2 inches away from the puzzle.

    • 3

Fold the chain so that the chain from the front side of the puzzle and the chain from the back side of the puzzle are joined together.

    • 4

Thread the chain through the hole on the top left side of the puzzle. This will create a loop of chain on the back side of the puzzle.

    • 5

Turn the puzzle over so you are looking at the solid gold side. Grasp the part of the chain with the silver loop at the end. Thread that part of the chain through the loop of chain you created when you threaded the chain through the hole. Pull the silver loop until the chain on that side is one long strand.

    • 6

Flip the puzzle back over to the side with the silver heart. Grab the chain on the right side and repeat steps 1 through 5 to solve the puzzle.

    Vortex Puzzle

    • 7

Locate the writing on the back side of each piece to identify which piece to move. Shift each of the ring pieces to loosen them from their tight configuration. When the puzzle is solved the three rings will lay flat in one piece. The pieces should maneuver easily and will click as they move.

    • 8

Join the top, curviest end of the "Vortex" piece to the middle portion of the "Hanayama" piece. This will move the top end of the "Vortex" piece free from the puzzle bundle. Join the top end of the "Ay" piece to the middle portion of the "Vortex" piece. Pull the top end of the "Ay" piece so it becomes free from the puzzle bundle. Join the top end of the "Hanayama" to the middle portion of the "Ay" piece. Pull the end of the "Hanayama" piece free from the puzzle bundle. Each of the pieces will now be connected to each other by their tails.

    • 9

Join the tail of the "Hanayama" piece to the tail of the "Ay" piece.

    • 10

Join the top of the "Ay" piece to the middle of the "Vortex" piece. You can now pull all three pieces so that they form a straight chain.

    • 11

Remove the "Hanayama" piece from the chain. The "Ay" piece will be next in the chain, and should be removed to solve the puzzle.
