Apple iPod and iPhone owners use iTunes to update their devices with new music and video, making the program a valuable one. iTunes can also be used to play media from a computer; users can purchase content through iTunes; or update their libraries with media from a CD or computer file. Updating an iTunes library with new music can be accomplished in a few easy steps. Apple occasionally offers new versions of iTunes, which can be downloaded from within the program.

Instructions

  1. Importing Music From a CD

      Open iTunes on your computer and insert a CD into your computer's disc drive.

      Highlight the name of the CD iTune's left-side toolbar. Click on the "Import" icon that appears below the track list.

      Wait for each song to have a green check mark next to it and then manually eject the CD. The songs will appear in your iTunes library.

    Importing Music From Your Hard Drive

      Open iTunes on your computer and click on the "File" tab of the upper toolbar.

      Select "Add File to Library" from the drop-down menu.

      Navigate to the folder where your music is kept on your hard drive. To add a song to your iTunes library, highlight a track and click "Open." You can add multiple songs at once by holding down the "Control" key on your keyboard while you highlight more than one song. You can also hold down the "Shift" key and click on the first and last songs in a block of songs that you want to add to your library.

    Getting the Newest Version of iTunes

      Open iTunes on your computer and go to the "Help" tab of the upper tool bar.

      Select "Check for Updates" from the drop-down menu.

      Click on "Update Now" if a new version of iTunes is available. After downloading the new version, restart iTunes to finalize the updates.
