How to Add Weights to a Total Gym
The Total Gym is a line of exercise equipment that is used commercially and in a home setting that works as both a strength-training apparatus and a Pilates machine. The device uses a person's body weight as well as gravity to provide resistance and allows a person to work out both the lower and upper body. An optional weight bar can be purchased with the Total Gym and installed with free weights to provide a more demanding workout.

1
Locate the holes intended to hold the weight bar. These will be found at the bottom of the machine near the glide-board rails.
-
2
Remove the spring clips and bolts from the weight bar with your fingers or a screwdriver, if necessary.
-
-
3
Slide the weight bar into the proper hole. There should be equal lengths of bar extending from either side of the machine. Attach the weight bar to the bracket with the bolt that was previously removed from the bar. Tighten the bolt with a screwdriver.
-
4
Insert free weights on either side. The weight should be evenly distributed on both sides of the weight bar. The amount of weight allowed on each bar will vary model. For instance, a Total Gym 14000 can hold up to 450 pounds of total weight. The Total Gym 26000 can hold a maximum of 650 pounds of weight. Check your owner's manual to learn your model's total allowed weight.

Hold the free weights into place by installing a weight clip on each side of the weight bar.
