How to Disable Winrar Encryption

The popular WinRAR archive management software offers archive encryption. It can create ZIP or RAR archives protected with a password that must be entered to successfully extract files from them. It's possible to set WinRAR to automatically encrypt all the archives it creates with a default password. If your copy of WinRAR is doing this and you want it to stop, you can disable encryption with a simple menu command.

Instructions

1. Open WinRAR. Click "File," then "Set Default Password."

2. Delete the contents of the password field, leaving an empty string. Click "OK."

3. Restart WinRAR and look at the small key icon in the bottom, left of the window. If it's yellow rather than red, you've disabled WinRAR's encryption.
