Disable Winrar Encryption

The popular WinRAR archive management software offers archive encryption. It can create ZIP or RAR archives protected with a password that must be entered to successfully extract files from them. It's possible to set WinRAR to automatically encrypt all the archives it creates with a default password. If your copy of WinRAR is doing this and you want it to stop, you can disable encryption with a simple menu command.

Instructions

    • 1

Open WinRAR. Click "File," then "Set Default Password."

    • 2

Delete the contents of the password field, leaving an empty string. Click "OK."

    • 3

Restart WinRAR and look at the small key icon in the bottom, left of the window. If it's yellow rather than red, you've disabled WinRAR's encryption.
