How to Apply for Stimulus Money for Small Business
In 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act designated $787 billion for business stimulus. Much of this money has not yet been released or assigned; therefore, it is still possible to apply for stimulus money for your small business. If you work within or sell to one of the targeted industries (education, energy, health care, housing, infrastructure, IT, transportation or water) you can petition one of the government-provided procurement projects for stimulus money for your small business.

1
Search the resources provided by the Government Express website. From the main resources page, go down to the "Doing Business With Links." These links will provide you with information for cities, states and federal projects where stimulus money will be directed. Before you apply for money, you need to see where the money is being directed so that you can tailor an application directly to specific stimulus money.

2
Go to the Recovery.org website provided by Onvia, a government contract tracking firm. This website will allow you to search, by state, where all the stimulus money will be spent. Once you click on the state of your choice, the website will direct you to a page where specific projects are listed. The information in the project listings includes contact details for project managers and application details and deadlines.

3
Attend meetings scheduled by project mangers. Many of the procurement projects will have session meetings where potential contractors can attend and ask questions. It is very important to form personal relationships with these project mangers, as they will be the ones directing and, in some cases, ultimately deciding with whom to do business. Getting to know project manners will give you a better chance of securing stimulus money.

4
Construct a detailed plan for what you want to do with the stimulus money. You should create a plan similar to a general business plan. It should include the type of business you run and how you will invest your stimulus money. Your plan should be specifically tailored to one of the government procurement projects. The application requirements and deadlines vary significantly depending on the project, so make sure that you follow all application requirements exactly in order to have a better chance of securing stimulus money for your small business.
