How to Clean Chrome Wire Wheels

How to Clean Chrome Wire Wheels thumbnail
Chrome wire wheels can prove difficult to clean.

If you take pride in the appearance of your vehicle, you most likely want to take extra steps to make every inch of your vehicle spotless, including your chrome wire wheels. These wheels require extra maintenance to keep them looking like new, and they require a different type of cleaning from the rest of your vehicle. Clean your chrome wire wheels when you see noticeable grime and dirt, as well as when you give your vehicle its normal cleaning.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Wait for your chrome wire wheels to cool off before you start cleaning. If you have just driven your vehicle or if they're in direct sunlight, they are likely too hot to clean. Park your vehicle in the shade to make the cleaning process easier.

    • 2

Splash cool water on your chrome wire wheels to cool them off if they are very hot or if you can't wait for them to cool down. Cleaning them while hot can damage the chrome.

    • 3

Spray on a pH-neutral soap. Look for this soap at your local auto supply store. Allow it to sit on the chrome wire wheels for a few minutes.

    • 4

Clean away any caked-on or visible dirt with a small, stiff-bristle paintbrush to Use a small enough brush to get inside all of the crevices of your chrome wire wheels.

    • 5

Use a high-pressure water spray to rinse off the cleaner and any dirt you loosened with the paintbrush.

    • 6

Dry off your chrome wire wheels with a soft towel, and apply a non-abrasive wax. The wax will protect the delicate chrome from road grime and dirt. Again, get inside all the crevices of your chrome wire wheels.
