How to Remove & Reload Internet Explorer thumbnail
Internet Explorer is a popular browser that comes preinstalled on most computers.

Microsoft Internet Explorer is one of the most popular browsers in existence, with the latest W3Counter survey results stating 43.2 percent of all Internet users using Internet Explorer as of 2010. While the latest versions are very stable, there are still many reasons for needing to uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer, from contracting a virus to corrupt files or missing registration information. For this reason, Microsoft has made it very straightforward to remove and reinstall the browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the Internet Explorer homepage.

    • 2

Download the installation file for Internet Explorer. Do not open the file.

    • 3

      Click "Start," then "Control Panel."

    • 4

Select "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features." Select Internet Explorer and click "Uninstall."

    • 5

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the removal. Check the programs list for any remaining Internet Explorer files, such as security updates. Remove these if they are still present.

    • 6

Locate and open the Internet Explorer installation file you downloaded earlier.

    • 7

Follow the onscreen instructions to install the file.

Tips & Warnings

  • If Internet Explorer is not functioning correctly, try resetting it to default settings. You can do this easily by visiting the Microsoft Support website and clicking the "Fix It" button. You may lose any saved cookies by doing this, and will have to re-enter your passwords if your browser is set to remember them.
