Wireless repeaters extend the range of an access point.

Linksys access points, such as wireless routers, can be configured to act as an access point, access point client, wireless bridge or wireless repeater. Using your router as a wireless repeater is beneficial in that it extends the range of your wireless signal. In order for your router to act as a wireless repeater, you must check its wireless MAC address and turn wireless repeater mode on in your device's settings.

Instructions

  1. Check the MAC Address of a Wireless Router

      Access your router's setup page. Type "192.168.1.1" into your browser and press "Enter." Enter your username and password and press "Enter." If you are not able to access your router's setup page this way, consult the instruction manual for alternative instructions.

      Click "Status" and "Wireless" on the router setup page.

      Record the number that is listed next to "MAC Address."

    Turn On Wireless Repeater Mode

      Access your router's setup page.

      Click "AP Mode" and select "Wireless Repeater" on the router setup page.

      Type the MAC address you recorded into the "LAN MAC Address" field. Do not type the colons (:) when entering the MAC address.

      Click on the "Save Settings" button.
