A Phllps scrwedriver is required to access the filter.

The air filter in the Pontiac G6 keeps dirt and debris from getting into the engine. Foreign matter that enters the engine through the air intake system could decrease the engine performance or cause damage. Pontiac recommends replacing the filter every 50,000 miles, or whenever it becomes clogged or dirty. It also recommends inspecting the filter at every oil change interval. The filter can be gently shaken to release loose dust and dirt when it is inspected. If the filter remains caked with dirt, it needs to be replaced.
