How to Change the Air Filter on a 2006 Dodge Caravan
According to the owner's manual, the air filter in your Dodge Caravan needs to be replaced every 30,000 miles. However, Dodge also recommends that you change the filter more often if you live in a dusty climate or do a lot of stop-and-go driving. Dodge recommends using a factory replacement from your local Dodge dealer, but you can use any comparable aftermarket filter. The job is a simple one, and the only tool you'll need is a screwdriver.

1
Shut your Caravan's engine off. If it has been running, let it cool down for about 15 minutes. Open the Caravan's hood.
-
2
Loosen the two screws on the air hose clamps. This is the large black hose coming from the engine air box. There is one screw on each end of the air hose. Unplug the electrical cable attached to the air hose.

3
Pull the air hose out of the air box, and then pull the other end out of the throttle body. Unplug the small hose coming from the air box. This allows you to open the air box to access the air filter.
-
4
Pull up the two clamps on the side of the air box. Lift the cover off the air box and remove the air filter. Throw it away.
-
5
Wipe the interior of the compartment with a damp rag, followed by a dry rag. The interior of the air box must be clean and dry.
-
6
Insert the new filter into the compartment. Reattach the cover and push down the clamps. Plug the small hose into the side of the air box.
-
7
Connect one end of the large air hose to the air box. Connect the other end to the throttle body. Tighten the hose clamp screws to secure the hose.

Tips & Warnings
If you are replacing the Caravan's stock filter with a "lifetime" filter, such as a K&N filter, follow the filter manufacturer's recommendation regarding the gasket for the air box cover. You may be required to remove it and apply a sealant (usually provided) to the cover.
