How to Install Warcraft 2 on Windows XP

Blizzard Entertainment released "Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness" in 1995. The real-time strategy game was a success, laying the groundwork for the massively successful massively multiplayer online role-playing game "World of Warcraft." Because of the game's age, "Warcraft II" is not compatible with Windows XP. Run an MS-DOS emulator to run "Warcraft II" on Windows XP.

Things You'll Need

  • "Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness"
  • MS-DOS emulator
  • Click on the "Start" button and on "My Computer."

  • Double-click the "C:" drive icon.

  • Click "Make a new folder" under "File and Folder Tasks." Name the new folder "WAR2."

  • Download and install an MS-DOS emulator, such as DOSbox or DOSEMU. (See Resources.)

  • Open the MS-DOS emulator.

  • Type "mount c C:\WAR2" and press the "Enter" key.

  • Type "mount d E:(or whatever the letter is for your CDROM drive) -t cdrom" and press the "Enter" key.

  • Type "d:" and press the "Enter" key.

  • Type "SETUP" and press the "Enter" key. The "Warcraft II" installation screen will appear. Click the "Continue" button and follow the rest of the on-screen instructions to finish installing the game.
