As a man, you are often in search of the perfect cologne spray to make an entrance and announce that you have fashionably arrived. Your signature scent may be the result of a gift, recommendation or through basic trial and error. The search for a good cologne spray however, does not end at the gift opening or department store cash register. The next step in this process is to actually learn how to wear it.

Identify the objectives. A business meeting would call for a more subtle smell than a candlelight dinner would. For a loud dance club, you may be best served with bold cologne that you apply more aggressively.

Find your pulse points. These pulse points radiate heat whenever your heart beats and effectively activate the cologne’s oils and fragrances. Pulse points are located at your major joints. These areas include the front of your wrists, neck and inner elbow.

Spray between two and four pumps in total at your body’s main pulse points. Your wrists and neck are especially important. If you plan to go out clubbing, you should spray some of the cologne on your fingertips before rubbing it behind your ears. This trick will help you to get noticed when a woman needs to speak directly into your ear for attention. Prior to an intimate date, you should spray some cologne directly onto your chest.

Purchase body wash, deodorant and aftershave that comes in your cologne’s scent, if available. This is called fragrance layering, where you use similar products to avoid clashing aromas on your body. For added affect, you should shower with the body wash before an important social event or date. If a shower is not possible, keep a sample of your cologne available to apply one or two sprays in the afternoon and before heading out for the night.
