My Gateway Laptop Won't Charge

If the battery in your Gateway laptop computer won't charge, this is a sign that you're performing some part of the process incorrectly. A laptop battery is a very straightforward concept--you plug it in and it charges. However, if you're having a problem with one of the outlets in your home or the battery itself, it could prevent the lithium ion cells on the inside of the battery from being replenished, defeating the purpose of a battery altogether.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your Gateway laptop battery out of its compartment and then put it back in. Sometimes if the battery is loose or if it's not in the compartment in exactly the right way the connection between the power adapter and the battery won't be possible and the battery won't charge.

Try plugging your power adapter into different wall outlets in your home. If the power adapter that charges the battery is plugged into an outlet that isn't actually working, the unit won't be able to charge your battery. If an outlet in your home has stopped working and you were unaware of this fact, that would explain why your laptop won't charge. Switching to a new outlet will correct that problem.

Replace your Gateway laptop power adapter. If there is a problem with your power adapter anywhere along the cable that connects your computer to a wall outlet, the electrical energy needed to charge the battery won't be able to pass from point "A" to point "B" and charge the battery. Go to an electronics retailer and purchase a new power adapter that works for your specific model of Gateway laptops to correct this problem.
