Instructions

  1. Steps for learning basic hypnosis techniques

    • 1

Listen to hypnosis CDs or attend hypnosis seminars to experience hypnosis first as a subject. For the first session, let yourself naturally drift into a hypnotic state to experience hypnosis. For the second, third and fourth sessions, stay awake and alert, listening to the hypnotist to get an overview of how it works.

    • 2

Attend a hypnotherapy training school, enroll in a home study course or read hypnosis books to learn induction techniques. Induction techniques are important because they are what put a person into a hypnotic trance. Some tricks include hand techniques such as dropping a person's arm and use of embedded commands woven into a script that you read or memorize.

    • 3

Write hypnosis scripts or find ones that you can use that match your objectives. By writing your own hypnosis scripts you will be able to serve your future subjects and help them achieve their goals. Make sure to include the induction, body and the termination of the trance state which helps the person wake up feeling energized and happy.

    • 4

Use a tape recorder to tape your practice hypnosis sessions. Read your hypnosis script, including induction, body and termination of trance state. Practice your speaking voice, your tone and pace. Play it back to listen to how you sound.

    • 5

Hypnotize a volunteer subject such as family member, friend or another student of hypnotherapy. Practice using deepening techniques as well as the hand and other physical techniques. You may also use induction tools such as a rocking pendulum.

Tips & Warnings

  • Find a mentor who will demonstrate best hypnosis techniques.

  • Test out your induction techniques with someone you trust and ask for honest feedback.

  • Hypnosis is a powerful tool that should not be used to manipulate people or cause them harm. Stay within legal, ethical and moral boundaries. Do not hypnotize people for your own gain with intent to harm.
