How to Fill the Transmission Fluid on a 1990 Toyota
The 1990 Toyota models require that you fill the transmission with fluid while the engine is warm. The fluid helps the car run properly by keeping the transmission lubricated. It's important to keep the proper fluid level in the transmission to facilitate the efficient switching of gears. You should check the transmission fluid once a week, and add fluid as needed. Checking the fluid level in your 1990 Toyota and adding fluid is easy to do.

1
Turn on your engine and allow it to run for five to 10 minutes.

2
Lift the hood and prop it open. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick toward the back of the engine. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it off with a clean rag.

3
Reinsert the dipstick all the way in. Pull it back out and note what the fluid level is. The fluid should register between the top and the bottom lines on the end of the dipstick. If it does, the fluid level is fine. If it doesn't, proceed to the next step.

Place the funnel in the fluid well. Pour a small amount of transmission fluid into the hole. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level. Repeat until the Toyota transmission has the proper level of fluid.
