Remote webcams can be useful for many situations. New parents can use them instead of traditional baby monitors. They can also be used to keep an eye on your house while you're not there. There are several pieces of software that can help you set up a remote webcam connection with ease and, provided you have an Internet connection and the right hardware, you can stream images to another computer or even a mobile phone.
Things You'll Need
- Webcam software
- Wi-fi connection
- Web browser
Use Fwink. This is an open-source webcam software that is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and 7. It is easy to install and configure. You will have to set up your own remote webpage to stream the image using HTML code. This remote webcam system works whether you're filming the next room or transmitting an image from another country. (See References 1)
Use WebCam Monitor. This gives users a live broadcast of whatever the webcam is filming. You will need you computer's IP address to activate the service. Once you've entered the correct details, the software will give you a URL to access, as well as a code. Typing this in will activate your media player, which will show the stream. You can also set up email alerts that will notify you when the software detects movement in the video. (See References 2)
Use EyeSpyFX. This Windows-compatible software allows you to view webcam images online. You can choose whether to share the images with the rest of the Internet or password-protect them for your viewing only. If you have an Internet browser on your cell phone, you also can use the software to transmit images straight to your handset when you're out and about. (See References 3)
