How to Backup Windows to FTP

Microsoft Windows operating systems function well for the most part; however, occasional problems can always occur during the course of regular use. Power outages, viruses and other nuisances can cause serious data loss on your computer. Thus, you should regularly back up your files with Microsoft Windows Backup wizard. A good method for backup involves file transfer protocol (FTP) backup. This method of backup will store your files, settings and documents off site and safeguard you from a physical error with your computer.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button. These instructions refer to Windows 7. You can perform this task following a similar method for all versions of Windows.

2. Click "Control Panel." Go to "System and maintenance." Open "Backup and Restore."

3. Click "Set up Backup." Enter an administrator password once prompted. Choose which files you wish to back up. You can back up all the files on the computer, an individual user's files or a manual selection. Next, choose "FTP" as your method of backup. Hit "Back up now" to begin the backup operation. Do not interrupt the process.
