How to Insert Page Break in Open Office

The free OpenOffice Suite works not only with its own proprietary file formats but can also import Microsoft Office files. Its Writer word-processor program, for example, can handle Word doc files, and apply formatting on the layout, paragraph, word and character level. Automatic functions such as paging, word wrap and numbering are automatically processed. However, you can override these program functions by manually inserting your own layout controls, such as manual page breaks.

Instructions

    • 1

Click inside the Writer document where you want the page break to appear.

    • 2

Choose the "Insert" menu and "Manual Break" to display the "Insert Break" dialog box.

    • 3

Click "Page Break" and if needed, specify the type of break you require from the Style drop-down. For example, if you want to specify the page after the break to be a left-hand page so it is numbered with even page numbers, choose "Left Page." If you want to specify new page numbering for the next page, choose "Change Page Number" and either enter or specify the new page in the Change Page Number box.

Click "OK" to close the dialog box and insert the page break. The break appears as a darker horizontal line at the top of the new page.
