How to Make Sugar Honey Hair Removal Wax

Removing unwanted body hair can become frustrating, but waxing keeps it from growing back quickly. Instead of purchasing a commercial hair wax remover, you can make your own with items that you have at home. Homemade hair wax has been used for centuries. It contains natural ingredients that will not irritate your skin as much as petroleum-based products that you would find in beauty stores. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • Saucepan
  • Candy thermometer

Instructions

    • 1

Combine 2 tbsp. of honey, 2 cups of white sugar and 1/4 cup of lemon juice into a saucepan. Place the saucepan over medium to low heat. Stir the ingredients until the sugar dissolves. Remove the mixture once it reaches a temperature of 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2

Let the mixture cool down for 10 minutes so that it does not burn your skin. Cut ½ inch thick strips from cotton fabric that are 3 ½ to 4 inches long. You will need around 24 to 36 of these strips.

    • 3

Apply the sugar hair remover evenly to your skin, with a craft stick, in the direction that the hair is growing. It needs to cover the hair that you wish to remove completely.

    • 4

Press a cotton strip over the wax. Rub on the strip to ensure that it sticks to the sugar wax. Lift up one of the edges, and pull the strip off the skin quickly against the direction of the hair growth.

    • 5

Heat the sugar wax over the stovetop when it begins to harden. This will allow you to apply it to the skin easily.

    • 6

Remove the wax from your skin with warm water and a mild soap.

Tips & Warnings

  • The hair wax will remove hair that is ¼ of an inch or longer.

  • Store the leftover hair remover wax in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

  • If you notice a rash developing, immediately stop using the remover. Your skin may be sensitive to the ingredients or it may be irritated. This will prevent damage to your skin.
