How to Test the Windows Media Player Plugin

The Windows Media Player plugin is a free program created by Microsoft that installs into the Firefox Web browser to enhance its multimedia capabilities. Once installed, the plugin is automatically activated if a Web page needs the use of the Windows Media Player technology for playing a video. Testing the Windows Media Player plugin will verify it is working correctly and does not need to be reinstalled. This can be done by going to a special Web page set up to activate the Windows Media Player plugin if it is installed inside of Firefox.

Things You'll Need

  • Firefox Web browser

    • 1

      Launch Firefox.

    • 2

Go to the special Web page the makers of Firefox have set up to test the Windows Media Player plugin.

    • 3

Wait as the Windows Media Player program pops up as a video window on the Web page. Continue waiting until the video being loaded into the Windows Media Player program displays a title and Firefox logo.

Tips & Warnings

  • Click "Refresh" on the Web browser's control bar if the video being played in the Windows Media Player seems to be sluggish--this will reload the video.
