How to Fix "Error 1" on a Canon 5D Mark II
The Canon 5D Mark II is the top level "prosumer" camera offered by Canon, offering a balance of features and functionality for both professional and amateur photographers. But like all digital cameras, the 5D Mark II involves many sensitive electronics that are capable of producing errors. Canon indicates these errors through assigning each a numerical code, which displays on the back LCD panel of the digital camera. An "Error Code 1" indicates a communication error between the camera and the attached lens.

Remove any lens attached to the Canon 5D Mark II.

Clean the electrical contacts on the bottom of the lens by carefully using the microfiber cloth.

Clean the contacts on the camera body itself.

Reattach the lens and turn on the camera to see if the error code still displays.

Switch to a different camera lens and see if the error still occurs to isolate whether the problem is with the camera or with the lens.

Contact Canon support for repair.

I call Canon and this is a commune problem with this lens but they will not repair for free. I will post later how much is to fix it I am sending this tomorrow to canon nj.
