Removal of a Gmail Blacklist

Removal of a Gmail Blacklist thumbnail
Getting removed from a Gmail Blacklist is simple under the right circumstances.

Gmail blacklists are created to block certain IP addresses from sending bulk mail, which is often considered to be spam mail whether it is or is not. This is essentially Gmail or Google's way of protecting the Gmail users from spam mail, attacks, and similar annoyances. If a Gmail account suddenly seems to be excessively active, or abnormally over-active, Google will detect this sudden change in account usage and block or freeze the account. This is to prevent Gmail accounts from being stolen and used to send massive amounts of spam.

Instructions

Determine if the account has been hacked or stolen. This can be done in several ways. First, if you are still able to log into the Gmail account, log in and go to the "Inbox". Scroll down to the very bottom, and below the Inbox there is a bit of tiny print reading, "You Are Currently Using 220 MB (2%) Of Your 7495 MB" And Below That", as well as, "Last Account Activity: 31 Minutes Ago On This Computer" followed by the word "Details" that is an underlined active link. Click this "Details" link and it will show the most recent log ins to this Gmail account, as well as the locations of the log ins. If any of these are suspicious, contact Google promptly to report them. If the Gmail account has been locked or frozen, this is usually because Google detected abnormal usage and locked the account to protect the owner. The owner will not be able to log in. In this instance, it is best to directly contact Google.

Contact Google either by accessing the Google "Contact Us" link from the main Google page by choosing "More", then "Even More" from the very top of the web page, and then scroll down to the bottom and choose "Help", and then scroll down to the bottom of this Help page and select "Contacting Us". From here, choose the "We're Sorry Page" option from the bottom set of choices, then choose "Send Us Additional Information" from the bottom of this next page. This will bring up a contact form which is filled out, explaining the problem and requesting assistance to reactivate the Gmail account. This page may also be reached by referring to the References section of this article.

Call Google customer support directly, especially if waiting for an email response is too slow for you. There are several Google support offices throughout the U.S. as well as a few overseas. The U.S. locations provide phone numbers, the overseas locations do not provide phone numbers for all locations, so if contact must be made from outside the U.S. a country code will be needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the emails are sent through a business, it can be helpful to explain to Google what the business is and what the business IP address is to hopefully avoid being Blacklisted.
