How to Edit Iweb to HTML

Apple's iWeb is GUI (graphical user interface) only. There is no built-in way to manually code or edit HTML. In fact, the HTML isn't generated until you publish the page. You can either publish your pages locally and alter the pages yourself or use the ShareWare program iWeb Enchancer that can do the process for you.

Instructions

  1. Manual Editing

    • 1

Type text where you will want something to go. For example, if you want a banner at the top of your page, type at the top of your page: "BANNER." This will create a place holder to edit later.

    • 2

Publish the website to a folder on your computer.

    • 3

Find the local copy of your published page and click "ignore rich text commands" before opening the page.

    • 4

Replace the "BANNER" text with the HTML to create your banner.

    • 5

Save and manually sync your pages to your website.

    iWeb Enchancer

    • 6

In iWeb, create a rounded rectangle the dimensions you need to fit your item. For example, if you wanted a 480-by-90 pixel banner, you would create a rounded box of those dimensions in the location where the banner should go.

    • 7

Double-click the newly created box and use it as a text box. Type your HTML code directly into the rounded rectangle.

    • 8

      Publish your site.

    • 9

      Run iWeb Enchancer.

    • 10

Do a manual sync to your website.

    • 11

Run iWeb Enhancer every time you update and publish a page to keep your HTML edits.

Tips & Warnings

  • When using the manual method, keep a copy of your edited pages on your hard drive. Every time you republish the page you will have to re-add the edited content by hand.
