How to Replace the Lamp in a Hitachi 42V710
Hitachi manufactures quality LCD rear projection televisions of all sizes. If the picture quality begins to degrade or goes out altogether it may be because the lamp is failing or has failed and needs to be replaced. If the lamp fails while the television is on, wait at least 30 minutes before attempting to disassemble the lamp cover as the lamp may have exploded. Does this Spark an idea?

Turn off the main power to the television and unplug the power cord.

Remove the front cover from the television by pulling on the cover outward until the quick snaps disengage.

Remove the screw that secures the lamp cover with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the lamp cover.

Remove the two screws that hold the lamp. Remove the lamp by holding the lamp handle and pulling outward.

Place the new lamp into the slot and push the lamp unit back into its original position. Place the screws back into their holes and tighten securely.

Replace the cover making sure the clips re-engage and screw the cover on.

Replace the front cover of the television making sure the are aligned. When you hear a snap on one side, gently push on the opposite side to ensure the front cover is on tightly.

Plug in the power cord and turn on the main power switch for the television.

Tips & Warnings
Frequently turning the television on and off may result in a shorter lamp life.
If the lamp cover is not replaced or replaced correctly, the television will not turn on.
The lamp will become very hot after the television has been on. Take care to not get burned.
If the television stops functioning while it is in use, the lamp may have exploded. Wait 30 to 45 minutes before attempting to open the lamp compartment.
Do not touch the glass on the lamp, it can shorten the life of the lamp or create reduced picture quality.
