How to Play Shockwave Games Offline

Unlike files you download and play using an external player, Shockwave game files are flash files (.swf) that you can play directly in your browser. If you've ever tried to right-click a Shockwave game and save it like a traditional file, you'll find that it's not possible. Mozilla Firefox, however, gives you the capability to download the embedded Shockwave file and save it to your computer where you can then open it and play it when you are offline.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Firefox and navigate to the website that contains the Shockwave game you want to play offline.

    • 2

Click "Tools" in the file menu and select "Page Info." The "Page Info" dialog box will appear.

    • 3

Click on the "Media" icon at the top of the "Page Info" dialog box.

    • 4

Browse through the addresses and locate the .swf (Shockwave file extension) file in the list. Note that the type will be "Embed."

    • 5

Click "Save As" and save the file anywhere on your computer.

    • 6

Locate the .swf file you saved on your computer. Drag and drop into your web browser icon or right-click the .swf file, select "Open With" and choose your browser from the list. Note you can do this whether your computer connects to the Internet or not once you save the file to your hard drive.
