Churchs can sell flowers at the close of Sunday service.

School groups raise an estimated $1.5 billion dollars a year through fundraising. This figure is for schools alone and does not include the other charities and groups that use fundraisers to generate fast cash. Selecting a fundraising event that is the best match for your organization is the first step to maximizing profits.

Instructions

    • 1

Organize a 50/50 raffle at charity meetings and events. Purchase a roll of double strip tickets and sell them at the event. Announce the winning ticket at the end of the event. Give the winner 50 percent of the proceeds and keep the rest for your organization.

    • 2

Plan a bake sale and enlist members of your group to bring or bake goodies.

    • 3

Hold a car wash at a high-traffic location, such as a grocery store or shopping plaza, that has access to water. Hang handmade signs to direct traffic to your location. Make sure you have the necessary supplies on hand, such as car wash fluid, towels, shammys, car wax and sponges.

    • 4

Hold a rummage sale. Ask the members of your organization to donate their gently used, unwanted items for the sale.

    • 5

Host a charity dinner, which would allow you to incorporate more than one fundraiser. Charge a cost per guest for the dinner, then include other money-raising activities, such as a 50/50 raffle, bake sale, rummage sale or silent auction.

    • 6

Auction items during a silent auction during dinners and banquets. Assign your members to collect donations--ranging from gift certificates to products--from local businesses and parents. Display the donations on a table with bid sheets. Set up a bidder station near the auction table for patrons to register and provide their information such as name, address and phone number. Announce the winners at a designated time and collect the money.

    • 7

Visit local florists, green houses and farms to ask for plants and cut flower donations and organize a plant sale.

    • 8

Ask for monetary donations. Let others know your charity needs funds and support.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always get business and property owner permission before setting up a fundraiser on their premises.
