Lay a yellow sweatshirt out flat and attach black tape in horizontal stripes running across the front. Place a stripe every 2 inches. Turn the sweatshirt over and repeat the process on the back.

      • 2

Put on black pants and black shoes.

      • 3

Put your sweatshirt on with the hood up. Tighten the hood so that it frames your face and all your hair is hidden.

      • 4

Place the antennae headband on your head over the hood.

      • 5

Draw yellow and black stripes on your face using yellow and black face paint.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you can't find a yellow sweatshirt, find one that is white or off-white and then dye it yellow with Rit Dye Yellow #1.

    • Instead of using black tape to create stripes on your sweatshirt, you can sew on thick pieces of black ribbon.

    • If you don't want to paint your face, you can buy a standard yellow mask and use black tape (or a thick black permanent marker) to make stripes on it.

    • If you use Rit dye to color your clothing, make sure that after you are finished dyeing the article, you thoroughly clean your washing machine. Run your machine empty on the largest hot cycle and add detergent and 1 c. bleach to the cycle.

I wanted this costume to be handmade and still look really nice. I handstitched the yellow ribbon stripes on a black sweatshirt. Then I glued wings to the back and yellow pipe cleaners on the hoodie for antennas. I used a black marker on the inside of the sweatshirt to cover the yellow stitching. Then for trick or treating, I covered a black bucket with rope and hot glued button bumble bees on it to make a bee hive. It turned out adorable!
