Program a DirecTV remote to a new TV.

The DirecTV satellite service offers superb-quality HD channels and DVR programming. Once you get the unit set up and have the DirecTV remote in hand, you will probably want to set the remote to control your TV. While you could always use the TV remote to change the channels or the volume, this is inconvenient and unnecessary. DirecTV remotes work with almost all new TVs; it's just a matter of pressing the right button combination to sync the two devices.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the TV on and position the mode switch on your DirecTV remote to "TV."

    • 2

Hold the "Mute" button, which may look like a speaker with a slash through it, for a few seconds, then hold the yellow "SELECT" button. A green light should flash twice on the remote.

    • 3

Press the button labeled "PWR" to turn the TV off. The DirecTV remote should now be able to control the TV when set in the "TV" position. If this isn't working, continue with Step 4.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 1 and 2, then after the green light flashes press "9911." You should again see the green light flash twice.

    • 5

Tap the "Channel Up" button, which will have an upward arrow and is located above the "3" button. Keep tapping this until the TV turns off.

    • 6

Press the "SELECT" button, then release it. The TV should now be set.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the TV is still not working, it is possible the TV isn't compatible with the remote.
