The Microsoft Word software, used to create documents such as invoices, reports and letters, is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. Word is set up to resemble a piece of copy paper and its default settings open a new page of paper with a one-inch margin around all four sides of the paper. While the default typing option is to have words left-justified, which means they line up along the left margin and leave a ragged edge on the right, Word makes it quick and simple to change how text appears, making eye-catching papers.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Word, click the “File” menu and select “Open.” Browse to a document that has text for centering and double-click the file name to open the document in a new window.

    • 2

Scroll to the page of the document for text centering. Click the “View” tab at the top of the screen and click the “One Page” button. This puts your entire page on the screen so you can see both the top and bottom margins.

    • 3

Highlight all the text on the page, from the first to the last word, with your cursor.

    • 4

Click the “Page Layout” tab on the top of the screen. Click the small arrow in the bottom right corner of the “Page Setup” section of the toolbar to open the “Page Setup” menu. Click the “Layout” tab.

    • 5

Pull down the “Vertical alignment” menu under the “Page” section and select “Center.” Click “OK.” The text will not be centered between the top and bottom margins.
