How to Word Religious Birthday Wishes

Save

If you'll be attending a birthday party with a religious theme, or simply want to extend birthday wishes to someone while honoring their faith, there are a number of respectful and poetic ways to do this. Your birthday wishes should convey your sincere best wishes to the recipient, while giving the message that you acknowledge the importance of their religion, as well as the joy associated with the birthday celebration.

Things You'll Need

  • Stationery or Greeting card
  • Pen
  • Begin the greeting card by simply wishing the recipient a happy birthday. If you don't want to use the phrase "Happy Birthday" you can write something like "Birthday Wishes for You" or "Birthday Greetings." You can elaborate on this depending on your relationship to the recipient, or recent occurrences. For example, if you're wishing your grandmother a happy birthday and she has recently recovered from an illness, you might start the card with something like 'I'm so glad to see your doing better, and I sincerely hope these birthday wishes find you in good health.'

  • Add a religious comment after the initial birthday wishes. Say something like "May God continue to bless you with health and long life" or "You are truly a gift from God, and deserve to be celebrated." You can also take this time to mention what the recipient has meant to you, i.e. "I know the Lord placed you in my life for a reason. You have been a wonderful friend, and I pray nothing but the best for you on your birthday."

  • Complete the well wishes with a fitting Bible verse. If you're extending birthday greetings to a young person, a verse like "This is the day that the Lord has made; Let use rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24). If you're giving the card to a friend or loved one at the birthday party, you might choose a verse like "...Let's have a feast and celebrate." (Luke 15: 23). Place the verse at the very bottom of the card; this will be the last phrase that the recipient reads, so you'll want the verse to convey something that truly displays how much you care.
