How to Scan a Document With an HP Laserjet 3200

Scanning documents with the HP LaserJet 3200 All-in-One printer is a simple procedure that becomes a little more complicated when you haven't assigned destinations to the "Scan" button. Scan destinations allow you to specify whether a document goes to a folder, the computer's desktop, an email address or another location. If the destinations aren't set, you have to use your computer's operating system to send scanned documents where you want them to go. When destinations are configured, you can take the operating system out of the equation and scan through the printer.

Instructions

  1. Scan With Printer

    • 1

Adjust the guides on both sides of the document feeder tray (the foremost tray on the printer) so the item you want to scan fits into it.

    • 2

Load the item into the document feeder tray with the printed side down. If you're scanning multiple pages, place the document package first-page-down.

    • 3

      Press the "Scan" button.

    • 4

Press the left or right arrow to select a destination where the scan will go on the computer, and press the "Enter" button to start the scan.

If you've not programmed scan destinations to the printer, you'll need to do this.

    Set Scan Destinations

    • 5

Click on the HP LaserJet Director icon on the taskbar. Click on "Customize."

    • 6

Select the "Monitor Device" tab and check the box beside "Perform this action when the device Scan button is pressed."

    • 7

Click on "Destinations" and then click "Add."

    • 8

Click "Edit..." and enter the name of the scan destination in the "Application Destination Name" box. The scan destination name appears on the printer's control panel display exactly the way you enter it.

If the scan destination is an email address, type the complete email address in the "Application Destination Name" box.

    • 9

Perform this procedure for each scan destination that you program.

    • 10

Click on "Apply" and "OK" to save the scan destinations.
