Choices include starting a specific program, prompting the user with a list of compatible programs via an AutoPlay box, taking no action at all or automatically saving pictures to a specified folder. The Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard is a built-in program on Windows XP computers that detects photos and images and allows you to copy them to your computer in a specified folder.

      Connect your camera or scanner to your computer.

      Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Click "Classic View" in the left column if applicable.

      Double-click "Scanners and Cameras."

      Right-click your camera or scanner. Click "Properties."

      Click the "Events" tab.

      Click "Camera connected" in the "Event" drop-down menu.

      Click "Start this program" under the "Actions" header.

      Click "Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard" in the drop-down menu to the right of "Start this program."

      Click "Apply," then "OK."

      Repeat for each camera or scanner you use with your computer.
