How to Enable the Scanner & Camera Wizard

The Scanner and Camera Wizard imports photos and images to your computer.

On Microsoft Windows XP computers, the user may configure how the computer interfaces with external devices, such as cameras and scanners. Choices include starting a specific program, prompting the user with a list of compatible programs via an AutoPlay box, taking no action at all or automatically saving pictures to a specified folder. The Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard is a built-in program on Windows XP computers that detects photos and images and allows you to copy them to your computer in a specified folder.

Instructions

1. Connect your camera or scanner to your computer.

2. Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Click "Classic View" in the left column if applicable.

3. Double-click "Scanners and Cameras."

4. Right-click your camera or scanner. Click "Properties."

5. Click the "Events" tab.

6. Click "Camera connected" in the "Event" drop-down menu.

7. Click "Start this program" under the "Actions" header.

8. Click "Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard" in the drop-down menu to the right of "Start this program."

9. Click "Apply," then "OK."

10. Repeat for each camera or scanner you use with your computer.
