How to Delete Windows Magnifier

The Windows Magnifier program is a built-in feature that allows users who have poor vision to enlarge text and images on the screen. Some people accidentally turn on this feature and cannot figure out how to delete or disable it. The Windows Magnifier will start automatically when you turn on your computer and resides at the top of your desktop screen as a bar. This program is unnecessary if you do not have vision problems.

Instructions

  1. Windows Vista

      Go to "Start" and then "Control Panel."

      Look for the "Ease of Access" icon. Choose "Optimize Visual Display" and another window will pop up that says "Make Computer Easier to See."

      Find the "Magnifier" feature and clear the box next to it. Hit "Apply" to save your changes.

    Windows XP/2000

    • 1

      Go to "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "Accessibility" and then "Utility Manager."

      Select "Magnifier" and hit "Stop."

      Clear all boxes underneath the "Magnifier" on the list.

  • There are other magnifying programs that mimic the look of Windows Magnifier.
