How to Find an IP Address for a Belkin

Save

An essential part of maintaining your home Internet network is knowing how to maintain the individual networking devices. Most home networking equipment, including modems and routers, provides a local access Internet protocol (IP) address that allows you to log in to that device to configure it for your specific connection type. If you use a Belkin or any other make of router in your home, in a few simple steps you can determine your router's local access IP.

Things You'll Need

  • Ethernet cable
  • Connect the router to the computer. To log in to the modem's interface, you must have the modem directly connected to the computer. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable into one of the numbered Ethernet ports on the back of the Belkin router. Connect the other end to one of the computer's Ethernet ports. Reset the Belkin by unplugging its power cord for a full 30 seconds and plugging it back in.

  • Run an ipconfig command. Navigate to the computer's command prompt. Select "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories." At the command prompt, type "ipconfig." Look among the command output for a code labeled IP address or IPv4 address. Try typing this number into the address bar of an Internet browser to see if it takes you to the router's configuration page. If not, there are further steps you can take to find the router's local IP.

  • Check the router. Often, router manufacturers print the local access IP on the underside of the router itself. If not, check any documentation you may have that was included with the router. You also can contact Belkin support at Belkin.com to determine the router's local IP.

  • Guess the router's IP. As a final alternative, you can check the list of common router IPs by brand. Type each separately into an Internet browser until you find the correct IP for the router.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need to contact Belkin by phone, call (800) 223-5546.
