Confige an IP address on a Cisco Catalyst 2900XL

Assigning an IP address to a managed network switch such as a Cisco Catalyst 2900XL enables an administrator to manage the network switch remotely. The advantage is huge: there is no need to plug in to the switch locally with a serial cable every time a configuration change is required. Adding an IP address to the switch configuration can be accomplished in a few steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Cisco Catalyst serial console cable
  • Computer with terminal console program and 9-pin serial port
