UTorrent is a file-sharing program. If your computer is currently running UTorrent, whether you have the active window open or not, the system tray will display the UTorrent icon. You can hover over this icon to view the status of downloads. If you decide that you do not want the UTorrent icon to be visible on the system tray, you can easily hide it without closing the program. The procedure is applicable to Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

Instructions

      Right click on the system tray. The system tray is also known as the notification area.

      Click on "Customize Notification Icons." This will bring up a list of all of your notification icons.

      Scroll through the list to find "UTorrent." Click on the box in the right-side "Behavior" column. The current setting will either be "Hide When Inactive" or "Show."

      Select "Hide." This hides the UTorrent icon even if the program is currently running. Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • Hiding the UTorrent icon does not close the program; it simply disguises the fact that it's running. If you want to close the program, right click on th UTorrent icon and click "Exit" or "Close."
