Zippo lighter's are useful and easy to repair.

Zippo lighters came onto the scene over 75 years ago. They became popular because they are easy to repair and are very stylish. Zippo has made it easy for the user to know when there is an issue and has made it easy and inexpensive for in-home repair. When the wheel on the lighter stops turning or is hard to turn that means that the flint is low and it is time to change it. You do not need to replace the lighter as the flint can easily be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the Zippo lighter in one hand and use the other hand to pull the outside cover off of the lighter.

    • 2

Remove the screw from the bottom of the lighter's insert that was removed from the case. You will need to use a tiny flat-head screwdriver. A spring will pop out of the tube if you pull it apart too fast, so remove the screw slowly from the insert.

    • 3

Turn the lighter over and tap it lightly on a flat surface which will cause the old flint to fall out.

    • 4

Replace the old flint with a new flint by sliding the new flint into the long tube inside the lighter.

    • 5

Replace the spring with the brass side inserted first. Using the screw driver, replace the screw.

    • 6

Slide the outer casing back onto the lighter's interior body.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have a tiny screwdriver set, a Dime can be used instead.

  • Never do any repairs to a Zippo lighter by an open flame.
