Search engine virus. The Yahoo! search engine virus usually works by trying to combat your default home page each time you open a new browser. This software can be removed with a few steps.

Instructions

1. Download and install an adware removal program from the Internet. A few reliable ones are "Ad-Aware," "Spybot Search and Destroy," and "MalwareBytes AntiMalware." Any of these will do the trick and are free of charge.

2. Open the application and let the program scan your entire computer for signs of adware. The time needed will depend on the size of your drive and the program itself.

3. Highlight the found threats and select the option to fix and remove them.

4. Reboot your computer and open an Internet browser to see if the problem software has been removed. If not, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the software has been located and removed.
