How to Edit Photos for YouTube
Sharing and viewing videos on the popular YouTube website provides enjoyable entertainment for many people. With a YouTube account, you can upload and share the personal videos you create. You can also browse the wide variety of videos on the website, saving your favorites for easy access. YouTube members can upload a photo to use with their profile for other members to see. Edit photos for YouTube to create a profile picture for your account.

Open the graphics program and click "File" and "Open" to open the digital photograph for editing.

Select the "Crop" tool above the workspace to crop the photo. Position your cursor within the photo where you wish to begin the crop, press the left mouse button in and hold it while pulling it diagonally across the photo. Release the mouse button when you reach the point where you wish the crop to end and click the crop tool once to crop the photo.

Resize the photo by clicking the "Image" tab and selecting "Resize" from the dropdown menu. Select a size that makes the photo small enough to upload to YouTube--YouTube allows photo uploads up to 256 KB. A photo size of less than 1,600 pixels by 1,200 pixels and a dpi of 72 is small enough to upload to YouTube.

Save the image by clicking "File" and "Save As." Enter a name for the photo and save it as a JPG, BMP, GIF (non-animated) or PNG image.

Visit the YouTube website and log in to your account with your user name and password. Click your username in the upper right corner and then select "Account." Select "Profile Setup" from the left sidebar and then select the "Change Picture" button.

Select "Upload Picture" to upload the photo you prepared. Navigate to the location where you saved the photo, highlight it and select "Open." You can also upload a still from a video already uploaded by selecting "Choose a video still." Browse through your videos to select one.

Click "Save Changes" to finish selecting your photo.
