Natural skin care products are alternatives to commercial products that contain chemicals. Chemicals may lengthen the shelf life of beauty products, but aren't always good for your face. Keep a selection of natural products on hand and you can make a face soap that complements your skin type and age. Make some soap for yourself and some for the other members of your family. Things You'll Need

  • Essential oils
  • Glass bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • Vegetable glycerin
  • Aloe-vera juice
  • Sunflower oil
  • Liquid castile soap
  • Grape seed oil
  • Rubber spatula
  • 8 oz. plastic bottles with caps

  1. Soap for Oily Skin

      Add three drops each of lemon and tea-tree essential oil to a glass bowl. Measure 1 tsp. of vegetable glycerin, using the measuring spoons and add to the bowl. Measure 3 tbsp. each of aloe-vera juice, sunflower oil and liquid soap into the bowl.

      Blend the ingredients together using the small spatula. Pour the mixture into a plastic bottle and cap.

      Mark the date made, ingredients and kind of soap on a label, using the marker. Attach the label to the bottle.

      Blend the ingredients with your spatula. Transfer the mixture into a plastic bottle and cap.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store your soap according to the shelf life of the ingredients used to make the soap. Check the manufacturer's instructions on each ingredient and store your homemade soap accordingly.

  • Homemade soaps that do not contain foaming agents will not foam.

  • Use a clean bowl and spatula to make each batch of soap.

  • You can find specialty oils and essential oils at natural food stores.

  • Always perform a skin test on your wrist or forearm by applying a small amount of the ingredients and leaving them overnight to test for allergic reactions. Do not use ingredients in your recipe that cause you to have an adverse reaction. Check with your physician if you have any concerns regarding ingredients you would use to make your homemade soap.

  • Read the cautions on the bottles of essential oils and use them accordingly.
