If you have a room that feels out of balance, try incorporating the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui to restore harmony. Feng Shui uses the five elements--water, wood, fire, earth and metal--to synchronize areas of the home. If administered correctly, you won't visually notice much of a change, but you will feel beauty and balance when you step into the room.

Things You'll Need

  • Furniture
  • Paint
  • Storage boxes
  • Declutter the room and clean it well. Remove all traces of past relationships. If you are transitioning a bedroom, remove all family photos, modern art and fresh flowers from the room.

  • Paint the room. Red, green and blue are good Feng Shui colors. Lighter colors will sober the zest for life you naturally feel. Extremely dark colors will be depressing. Pink will add romance to the bedroom, but peach signifies infidelity.

  • Rearrange the furniture. Remove any furniture that has sharp corners. Position the couch, desk or bed so it faces the door. Appliances and wires should be hidden. Add a warm rug, soft lighting and cushions.

  • Accessorize with fresh flowers and a water feature, except in the bedroom. Add candles, aromatic oils and lots of plants.

  • Close all drains when not in use, and keep the lids of the toilets down. This extra precaution will save your wealth from going down the drain.
