Location of a Microsoft Office Document Imaging File

Microsoft Office Document Imaging files can be saved as a Tagged Image File Format file (.TIFF) or a Microsoft Document Imaging file (.MDI). By default, these files will be saved to your "Documents" folder, but you have the option to save the files in a different location. If you change the location where the documents are saved and then are unable to locate the files at a later date, you can search your computer using wildcards to locate the documents.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Start" menu and double-click "Computer."

    • 2

Type the file name or a portion of the file name in the search box in the upper-right side of the window. As you type, search results will begin to be displayed in the main portion of the window.

    • 3

Use a wildcard to search for the Microsoft Document Imaging files if you are unsure of the file name. To use a wildcard, enter an asterisk followed by a period, and then the file extension (TIFF or MDI). For example, enter "*.TIFF" or "*.MDI" (without quotes) to search for all files with the extensions of Microsoft Document Imaging files. The wildcard search will return all files on your computer with either of the extensions.

    • 4

Right-click on the background of the search result window and select "View > Details." Right-click on the header of the search result window and place a check mark beside "Folder."

    • 5

Locate the folder location listed in the folder column beside the Microsoft Document Imaging files. This is the location to which the Microsoft Document Imaging files are saved.
