How to Download an Embedded Video With Internet Explorer

Store your videos to your hard drive or elsewhere to avoid their load times.

Internet Explorer and other Web browsers may be unable to play some videos if you don't have the appropriate software updated. It may also become a problem if you save a Web page to your hard drive (as a PDF, for example) and cannot view a video from that document. This happens because PDFs and other documents don't save the actual video, just the source code of a page, which merely links the video from its own servers. Most browsers, however, can follow the link and download the file itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Update your Internet Explorer browser if it isn't version 6 or newer by visiting the Microsoft website and clicking the Internet Explorer link from the menu labeled "All Products" near the top of the page. You must be using a Windows operating system to download Internet Explorer 8.

    • 2

Navigate to a page with an embedded video that you want to save to your hard disk or a removable disk--this might be a jump drive, a CD or DVD, or another device.

    • 3

Right-click the video and choose "Save As" from the menu.

    • 4

Choose a location from the dialog box that appears. It may be set to Desktop, My Videos, or My Documents by default, but you can navigate to any folder or drive from the panel on the left side of the window.

    • 5

Give the video a file name or leave the field as it is. (All videos accessed by a web page from a server must be named, so every video you encounter will have a file name already.) Click "Save" to download the video to its specified location.
