How to Add Chat to Your Site
An informative and well-designed website will appeal to visitors. But when they get to the site, they'll need something to do. Putting a chatroom on your website is a way to engage people and keep them coming back to your site. If your site is selling something or promoting a business, repeat visitors could translate to repeat sales. A chatroom could also help create new business networking relationships between you and others in your industry.

Use a free Java chatroom. If you are using a free hosting service, a free chatroom may be best for you. However, it will most likely come with advertising. You don't need any special hardware or software. Go to a free chatroom website like Chat Forum. Complete the sign-up form. Verify your email address. Then the chatroom room site will send a free html code to your email address. Using the instructions, add the code to your website.

Use a chat room plugin. If your website uses a Wordpress platform, you can add a chatroom plugin to your site in a few steps. Do an internet search for "Wordpress chat room plugins." You may come across one like the Wp-live-chat, or the OggChat Live Chat. Research the plugin you want. Download it to your hard drive. Then upload it to your site.
You may be able to upload the plugin to your Wordpress blog directly if you go to your Wordpress admin page. Do a plugin search using the term "chatroom." Then click on the "install button" when the plugin you want comes up.

Use a PHP chat application. For this, you'll need a host that supports PHP, and you might also need MySQL. Many paid hosting services come with these applications. Check with your hosting provider for more information. Download the zip file for the PHP chat application. Run the SQL command in "sql-generate.txt" in your MySQL, according to Blogoscoped. Plug your username, database name and password into "database.php5," according to Blogoscoped. Then upload the entire project to your root folder.
You can choose from many PHP applications, such as PHP chat or Blogoscoped. If you need more help working with PHP, contact your hosting provider.
