Submit a link and add a URL for free to get the word out about your website. Many of the web's top search engines and directories offer webmasters the ability to submit their website's link to them for review and possible inclusion. Some search engines and directories use software programs, called spiders or robots, to scan your website for content and determine if it meets their individual criteria for inclusion, while others are human-edited. Review times vary with human-edited sites, often taking longer to complete the review process.

Instructions

1. Find a list of search engines and directories. Search for "search engine list" and locate a list of search engines that you can start submitting your URL to.

2. Go to each site on the list and look for a link that says something like "Add URL," "Submit Site," "Add Website," "Submit Your Link," etc. Click the link to be taken to a page where you can add your site's details. Some sites may require that you browse their site to find the appropriate category before you click the link to add your site.

3. Submit your website. Follow the instructions on each site to provide details about your website. Typical information requirements include your URL, website title (usually the official name of the website), your site's description, keywords (words and phrases that tell the search engine what your site is about) and contact details, including an email address.

4. After you have filled-in all required fields, you can submit your site for review. Many sites require email confirmation. Be sure to check your email box after submitting your site to see if you need to click a confirmation link in your email to confirm your submission.

Tips & Warnings

• Avoid using programs or services that automate the process of submitting your link to search engines. Many search engines prefer manual submissions and some will automatically reject automated submissions.
