1
Update your Internet connection. Upgrading from a dial-up to broadband will greatly increase the speed of not only your downloads, but your entire Internet experience. Check with your current Internet provider to see if they off broadband in your area.

2
Ensure that the cables you are using to connect to the modem are not going through unnecessary extensions or adapters. Extensions and adapters can slow down the flow of information increasing your download time. Purchase a longer cable to eliminate the need of an extension cable.

3
Increase your bandwidth allowance. Internet providers often restrict the amount of data you can download from the Internet. The actual amount varies, depending on the company and package the customer is signed up to. Contact your provider and ask for an upgrade to a greater bandwidth.

4
Upgrade your computer components. Computers use RAM and ROM to run programs simultaneously. The more RAM and ROM your computer has, the more applications it can run at once and the quicker it will do them.

5
Download and install a download booster program. These programs can be purchased from computer stores or online. There are free programs available as well such as Fresh Devices, SG TCP Optimizer and Speed Patch. These programs use multiple connections to download the same file (up to 8) and are also capable of picking up broken connections and resuming downloads which generally improve download speeds.
