How to Install Roadrunner Internet

Use a Roadrunner cable connection to browse the Internet.

Roadrunner Internet service is a type of broadband, or high-speed Internet access that is provided by Time Warner Cable Company. Although the Roadrunner Internet connection is professionally installed by a Time Warner technician in most cases, a self-installation is also possible. Once the cable modem has been connected and powered on, installation of Roadrunner Internet access is a relatively simple task.

Things You'll Need

• Coaxial cable
• Ethernet or USB cable
• Cable modem
• Internet-ready computer
• USB driver disk

Instructions

1. 

   Coaxial cables connect the modem to the cable outlet on the wall.

   Connect the coaxial cable. One end connects to a coaxial input plug on the back of the modem, while the other connects to the wall outlet.

2. 

   Use a surge protector to avoid damage to the modem during electrical storms.

   Connect the power by plugging the modem's power cord into an electrical outlet. To prevent damage from electrical surges, connect the power cord to a surge protector that is plugged into an outlet. Attach the other end of the power cord to the modem, and wait for the "Power" and "Modem" lights to light up and remain on. Few modems require a manual on-switch, but if your modem has a switch, turn it on and wait for the modem to power up.

3. 

   Install drivers for a successful USB cable connection.

   Connect the modem to your computer. If using an ethernet cable, connect one end of the ethernet cable to the ethernet port on your computer, and the other to the corresponding ethernet port on the modem. If using a USB cable, place the USB driver disk in the computer's disk drive, select the option to allow Windows to automatically detect the drivers, and connect the USB cable to the modem and computer's USB ports.

4. Reboot your computer and wait for the modem's PC light to turn on. Once all three lights are on, open an Internet browser and browse freely.

Tips & Warnings

• Call your local Time Warner Cable office if the modem does not go online, to ensure that your cable Internet service has been enabled.
